James Mervin Munson, age 72, of Island Lake, Illinois, passed away peacefully on November 21, 2025, surrounded by the love of his family.
Born on May 25, 1953 in Wauconda, Illinois, Jim grew up in the community he would cherish throughout his life. He became a longtime resident of Island Lake, where he made his home since 1981 and built a life defined by hard work, loyalty, and devotion to the people he loved.
Jim was a retired Operating Engineer with IUOE Local 150, a career that reflected his remarkable work ethic, reliability, and pride in a job done right. He was widely known as one of the hardest working men anyone could ever meet-steadfast, committed, and always willing to give more of himself than was ever asked.
A man of generosity and quiet strength, Jim lived his life in service to others. He was a Freemason with the Wauconda Masonic Lodge, where he valued brotherhood, tradition, and helping others. Jim loved the outdoors-especially hunting, and he found joy in making trips to Florida, a place that brought him peace and warm memories with family. Above all else, Jim was a devoted family man whose greatest pride came from the home and life he built with his loved ones.
Jim is survived by his loving wife, Kris Munson; his children, Michael Munson and Erin Hughes; and his cherished granddaughter, Madeline Munson. He is further survived by his brothers Joseph Munson, John Munson, and Ray Rummel; and his sister, Janeen Kaecker.
He was preceded in death by loved ones who went before him, and he is now reunited with them in eternal peace.
Jim leaves behind a legacy of strength, generosity, and unwavering devotion. His family and friends will forever remember his humor, his loyalty, and the way he showed his love through action more than words. His absence leaves a profound void, but the impact of his life will continue in every person fortunate enough to know him.
A celebration of life will be held at a later date, where family and friends will gather to honor Jim's memory and the remarkable life he lived.
