JAMES MURPHY Obituary

MURPHY, James Vincent Born and raised in Arlington, MA, Jim was a studious altar boy, a mischievous teen, and an ambitious young man who worked his way through Boston University. He was a son of Boston through and through. As a successful businessman, Jim founded public opinion polling firms, served on Jimmy Carter's presidential campaign, and championed progress for countless organizations, guiding them through crises and public referenda. He commanded rooms with his charisma, sparking laughter even when his humor had an edge, and talked easily with everyone from parking lot attendants to CEOs of multinational corporations. He loved Cape Cod and Naples, FL, looking out at a sunset with his family and saying, "It doesn't get any better than this." He loved golf, a good cigar, and dogs. Mack most of all. He loved being a father and hearing what his children were up to. His drink was a Manhattan, on the sweet side, on the rocks. He might have been trapped in a fortune cookie factory. And, when presented with a restaurant bill, his inevitable reply would be "Do you take Mobil?". Jim traveled the world and was himself everywhere he went. He is survived by his brother Paul; his children Megan, Chris, and Katie; and his grandchildren Cameron, Caitlyn, Caroline, and Shepard. He was preceded in death by his parents, Marion and Edward. A celebration of his life will be held at a later date. Jim will be remembered for his larger-than-life personality, his love of family, and the jokes he never failed to retell year after year, until everyone could recite them, laughing all the same.
