Nash, James “Sherman�, age 87, of Knoxville, passed away peacefully, Wednesday, April 20, 2011 at Parkwest Medical Center. He was a native of Hubbard, Ohio, Sherman was born on September 24, 1923 to the late Ralph Hemenway and Helen Stevens Nash. Additionally, he was preceded in death by his first wife of fifty years, Fay Crooks Nash, two sisters, Louise Nash Edmunds and Evelyn Nash Rucker and one brother, Ralph “Bud� Nash. Mr. Nash was a United States Army veteran serving during World War II. He was stationed with the 329th Ordinance Depot Comp. in Germany, serving in the European Theatre. Sherman attended Northwestern University in Chicago, Illinois and Kent State University, graduating with a B.S. degree in Industrial Engineering from Youngstown State University. He started his career with Thomas Strip, a division of Pittsburg Steel in Warren, Ohio. He later worked with North American Rockwell Aviation in Columbus, Ohio and Weatherhead Corporation in Fort Wayne, Indiana. He finished an illustrious career as a supervisor and plant manager for Perfect Equipment in Murfreesboro, TN and Olney, Illinois, retiring in 1986. Sherman was a 3rd Degree Past Master for the Masonic Lodge, Rotarian in Illinois and a faithful member of First United Methodist Church in Murfreesboro, TN. Sherman and his wife, Beverly are members of St. Mark United Methodist Church, Knoxville, TN. In his retirement years, he stayed busy, being a member of St. Mark’s Adult Choir and volunteered his time and services every Friday in the Gift Shop of Children’s Hospital. Sherman was a board member of Cedar Grove Homeowners Association. Aside from his unwavering faith in the Lord and his steadfast love for his family, “Doobs� as he was affectionately called by his family will best be remembered for his eternal optimism and gracious soul. He never uttered an unkind word about anyone and got his biggest reward out of doing for others. Sherman was a passionate golfer and gentleman of the game, sharing that passion with his children and grandchildren. He was blessed to actively play for 68 years, organizing many golf leagues in the cities he had lived in. He was a former member of Stones River Country Club in Murfreesboro, TN. He is survived by his wife, Beverly Mansfield Nash with whom he shared eleven wonderful years; son and daughter-in-law, Trevor Crooks Nash and Betty Nash of Asheville, NC; daughter and son-in-law, Megan Nash Landers and Ben Landers of Knoxville; step-daughter, Joan Demarcus of Knoxville; step-sons, Joe Mansfield of Knoxville and Jimmy (Debbie) Mansfield of Chattanooga, TN; four grandchildren, Amy Landers Eagles (Andrew) of Los Angeles, CA, Capt. U.S. Army, Lex Oren (Kerry)of Chattanooga, TN, Evan Nash Landers of Knoxville, and Katharine Riley Landers of Charleston, SC; three step-grandchildren, Josh Demarcus and Joseph and Megan Mansfield of Knoxville; three great-grandchildren, Ryann Satterfield and Lili Oren of Chattanooga, TN and Samuel Watson Eagles of Los Angeles, CA and his beloved dog, Buddy. The family and friends will meet by 9:15 AM Monday at Tennessee State Veterans’ Cemetery for a 9:30 AM graveside service with Reverend David W. Graybeal officiating. Full military honors will be presented by the Volunteer State Veterans’ Honor Guard. The family would like to invite all friends to St. Mark United Methodist Church following the graveside service for brunch and fellowship. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the United Way of Greater Knoxville, 1301 Hannah Avenue, Knoxville, TN 37921 www.unitedwayknox.org or to St. Mark United Methodist Church, 7001 Northshore Dr., Knoxville, TN 37919 or to Children’s Hospital, 2018 Clinch Avenue, Knoxville, TN 37916.
