James Newsome Obituary
He was born June 9, 1932 in Myrtle, WV the son of the late Dee & Nicati Newsome.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his 1st wife and mother of his children, Rosella Bryant Newsome, his 2nd wife, Lula Porter Newsome, sons, Jerry Newsome, Greg Newsome and Jimmy Darrell Newsome, daughter, Jennifer Jeffrey, son-in-law, James Cordray, daughter-in-law, Pamela Newsome, grandparents, Alex & Jane Runyon and John & Rebecca Newsome, brothers, Willard Newsome, Edward Newsome and Virgil Newsome, sisters, Lillie Vance, Ida Lester, Dixie Dillon, Rebecca Maynard, Victoria Dillon, Ola Newsome, Frances Runyon and Seanie Marcum, great grandson, Marshal Brady Chaffin, and his father and mother-in-law, Emory & Ida Bryant.
James enjoyed going to church, playing the guitar in the choir, scrapbooking, playing on the computer and just playing music in general with his music buddy's.
Those left to cherish his memory include his daughters, Stephanie Cordray of Logan, Robin (Ermal) Chaffin of Kermit, Kathy (Mark) Ferry of Louisville, KY and Nikki Ardman of Cross Lanes, WV; sons, Virgil Newsome of Dingess, Jeff (Vicki) Newsome of Ohio and Jason (Stacy) Newsome of Fayetteville, WV; daughters-in-law, "Dr." Kelsie Newsome and Mary Newsome; grandchildren, Christina Sparks, J.R. Browning, Erin Browning, Crystal Browning, Brian Jacob Newsome, Bradley Chaffin, Brittany Williams, John David Chaffin, Chris Chaffin, Jessica Chaffin, Lauren Ferry, Bethany Farley, Natalie Farley, Benjamin Ardman, Nicholas Ardman, Josh Jeffrey, James Newsome, Aubrey Newsome, Madelyn Newsome, Grayson Newsome, Misty Carey and Joey Carey; twenty-six great grandchildren; eight great-great grandchildren; and his special friend and music buddy, Don Newsome.
Services will be held at 1:00pm, Saturday, October 4, 2025 at Mt. Hope Freewill Baptist Church with Sid Moore and Keith Brumfield officiating. Burial will follow at the Sturgill Cemetery at Laurel Creek, WV.
Visitation will be on Friday, October 3, 2025 from 6:00pm until 10:00pm at the church.
Pallbearers will be family and friends.
Freeman Funeral Home, Chapmanville, WV is in charge of the arrangements.
