James Damien "Jim" Niemczyk, affectionately known as Jimmy, GP, and Bapa, passed away on April 23, 2025, in Stony Brook, New York, at the age of 77.
Born on February 21, 1948, in Huntington, New York, Jim was the beloved son of Virginia Niemczyk and the late James A. Niemczyk. He grew up surrounded by a close-knit family that included his siblings Virginia Sue Mack (James), Martin (Theresa) Niemczyk, Rosemary Thide (Vincent), Carol Gagliano (Rick) and his late brother Stephen (Colleen) Niemczyk.
Jim shared a devoted marriage with his wife Lorraine and together they built a life centered around love, laughter, and family. He was a proud father to daughter Kira Niemczyk-DePaolo, son James R. Niemczyk and son-in-law Damien DePaolo. His greatest joy came from being "GP" and "Bapa" to his cherished grandsons Nicholas, Jameson, and Jace. Time spent with them brought him immense happiness and fulfillment.
A lifelong fan of baseball and an unwavering supporter of the New York Mets, Jim's passion for the game was infectious. Whether cheering from the stands, coaching from the dugout or watching from home, he found joy in every pitch and play. His love for cars-especially Corvettes-was another defining interest that brought him excitement throughout his life.
Jim had a gift for storytelling. He delighted in sharing fun facts and jokes with those around him, always ready with a quick wit or humorous tale to brighten someone's day. His laughter was contagious, and his presence brought warmth to every gathering.
He will be remembered as a loyal son and husband, loving father, devoted grandfather, cherished brother and uncle and someone who truly loved life's simple pleasures, family dinners filled with laughter, memories at the ballpark, or just time spent talking about cars or baseball stats.
May his memory bring comfort to those who knew him and continue to inspire smiles through every story retold in his honor.
