James Neal O'Connor, fondly known as Neal, was born on January 22, 1951, in, Kansas City, Missouri. He was a beacon of warmth and laughter who touched the lives of those around him. Neal passed away on October 3, 2024, in his home, surrounded by his loving family.

He graduated from Truman High School in the Class of 1969 and soon found his calling in the trade of sheet metal work. Neal was proud to be a foreman and a dedicated member of Sheet Metal Union Local 2, contributing his skills and expertise to the community. His career was marked by not just the work he did, but the relationships he built along the way. Neal was a man of many passions and a heart full of creativity. As a youth basketball and baseball coach, he imparted wisdom and encouragement to young athletes, shaping not just their skills but their character. His love for poetry and music filled his home, as he believed in the power of art to bring joy and connection. Whether it was the rhythm of a favorite song or the excitement of a golf game, Neal found happiness in the simple pleasures of life. Those who knew Neal would describe him as ornery and carefree, a true prankster at heart. He loved to laugh and make others laugh, winning over friends wherever he went. To him, no one was a stranger; everyone was a friend waiting to be made. Neal was also a remarkable problem solver, always ready to lend an ear or offer sage advice to those in need. Amidst all his accomplishments, Neal's proudest moments came from his role as a devoted father. He absolutely adored his girls, embodying the essence of a true "girl dad." His unwavering support and guidance helped shape their lives, as he celebrated both their triumphs and challenges. A powerful piece of wisdom that he often reminded his girls consisted of three simple words… “Love never dies”.

Neal's death was preceded by his parents, James “Jim” O’Connor and Emma Pauline Alden O’Connor; his step-mother, Donna Hoffman O’Connor; his step-brother, John Springstube, as well as his beloved grandparents and cousins. His legacy lives on through his treasured daughters, Carrie Broome (Ryan) and Hayley O'Connor (Quentin); his significant other, Kia Balarashti; his step-daughter, Nadia Harris; the mother of his girls, Patricia "Trish" O'Connor; his sister, Connie O'Connor; a niece, a nephew, several cousins, and many friends and colleagues.

To honor the life and legacy of Neal, a Celebration of Life will be held on October 27, 2024, at Sheet Metal Local #2 (2902 Blue Ridge Blvd. Kansas City, MO), with a breakfast reception beginning at 10:00 AM and memorial service beginning at 11:00 AM. The celebration will be followed by a graveside service at Highland Cemetery in Hamilton, MO, at 2:00 PM.
