James Peterson Obituary

James "Jim" Clifford Peterson

1937-2024

Salt Lake City, UTJames (Jim) Clifford Peterson, 87, passed away peacefully on October 26, 2024 of natural causes.

Born April 28, 1937, in St. George, Utah, to Clifford and Grace Virginia Nelson Peterson, James was the oldest of seven children.

James grew up as the son of a farmer in Littlefield, Arizona. The first eight years of his education took place in a one-room schoolhouse in Littlefield. He then attended Virgin Valley High School in Mesquite, Nevada, where he excelled in music and sports.

James served a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the New England Mission. Upon his return, he attended and graduated from Brigham Young University with a Bachelor of Arts in Music and History.

It was at BYU where he met the love of his life, Anne Olivia Corrigan. They were married on August 11, 1961, in the Los Angeles California Temple and spent the next 47 years together raising six children in California and Utah.

James taught in the history and music departments in Snowflake, Arizona; American Fork, Utah; and Eagle Mountain, California.

In 1971, James moved the family to Salt Lake City from Cucamonga, California, and opened the L'Eggs pantyhose market for the West Coast. James "hired" Anne to help stock L'Eggs displays all over the Salt Lake Valley and Idaho. Every year, our home was filled with the best "colored egg" Christmas ornaments. Years later, he bought the Servisoft water softener franchise which he owned until retiring in 2014.

Dad was an avid BYU Football fan and had season tickets for more than 44 years. When health issues limited his activities, he cheered on his team while watching TV or listening to the radio. This year, with BYU at 8-0, he is a very happy fan!

Dad was a hard worker and was "only 20 minutes away" whenever you needed him. He taught by example and raised his children to work hard at everything they did-he was proud of all their accomplishments.

During his Church service, James faithfully served in various capacities including his most recent calling as a temple worker in the St. George Utah Temple.

James is survived by five of his six children: Heather (John) Freeman, (Cristina Peterson, wife of Jeff), Eric (Gustavo) Peterson, Kimberly (Cory) Dearden, Tiffany (Thomas) Doxey, and Gregory (Adrie) Peterson; 15 grandchildren; and 14 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his son Jeffrey Corrigan Peterson, daughter-in-law Jill Cheney Peterson, his parents Clifford and Grace, brothers Kenneth and Melvin, baby sister Virginia, and "the love of his life," Anne.
