Jim was my first and only music teacher. He opened my eyes to new ways of looking at music that I had never thought of before, and most importantly he is my biggest inspiration when it comes to musicianship. When he played time would stop, we would be in the middle of a lesson and he would get lost in his own mind painting beautiful melodic images. Even when he was in the midst of creating music he would take time to look at the audience (me) and make sure that I was not only listening, but was involved in his music without even making a sound. His love and compassion transcended his music, and touched all of those around him. But beyond that, his positive outlook on everything (including his battle with cancer) was a truly awe-inspiring force. I am deeply saddened by the passing of an amazing mentor and friend, but I know that he is up in God's kingdom with the greats playing his sweet melodies for eternity. Your memory will never fade Jim.

I have had the gift of Jim's friendship and music instruction for about 5 years. Teaching a professional drummer the guitar had to be a challenge, but not for Jim. I have not known a better man in my life and as a guitarist....I have NEVER seen a better player than Jim. He taught me so much...and in a split second I would just stare at his hands as he left me wondering....."Where did you come up with that???" What a gift to just watch him play. Sometimes we just talked about....life....even after he got ill....but we never stopped the music. Jim is a true gift God gives us and I am glad we were friends. God's band just got alot better.

Last time I saw Jim was in his studio in 2015, looking and feeling positive about his health, always with a smile, even last year he seemed to be getting out of it and getting better. Then couple of months back, my son, Jim's true guitar disciple, was concerned and wanted me to followup on Jim as my son's email was not answered. I followed up and found he wasn't doing so well! But I did not realize that he would leave us so soon! Rest in Peace, Jim, we'll miss you forever! - Raabez, Yousuf and Family!
