James Pounds Obituary

James Roy Pounds, age 81, of Augusta, Georgia, entered into his eternal home on December 15, 2025.

James was born and raised in Augusta where he built a life rooted in faith, family, and hard work. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend whose life was marked by integrity, kindness, and quiet strength.

James is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Brenda Pollard Pounds; his two sons, Cliff Pounds and his wife Jeri, Matt Pounds and his wife Stephanie; and his sister, Camille Powell, and her husband William McDade. He was preceded in death by his brother, Jesse Edward Pounds, and is survived by his sister-in-law, Bonnie Pounds. He was the proud grandfather of Ryan and Ally Hucke (Cliff), Blaine and Mason Pounds (Matt), who brought him more joy than anything else in the world. James never missed an opportunity to share stories of his grandchildren and their accomplishments with anyone he met.

A man of strong faith, James was a devoted member and former deacon of Curtis Baptist Church in Augusta, where he faithfully served his church family for many years. His love for the Lord guided every aspect of his life.

James retired from The Savannah River Site (SRS) after many years of dedicated service, known by colleagues as a hard worker and dependable friend. Beyond his work and service, he treasured lifelong friendships and made it a priority to stay closely connected with those he cared about.

James loved to laugh and brought warmth and joy to those around him. He was a steady presence, a loving husband, and a devoted father whose legacy lives on through his family and the many lives he touched.

Though he will be deeply missed by his family and friends, they find comfort in knowing that James is now in his forever home in heaven, reunited with loved ones and at peace in the presence of his Savior. His family rejoices in the promise that they will see him again one day.

The family will hold a small, private Celebration of Life service at a later date, to be determined.

I got to know James at the Kroc Center too. We had great conversation about our community and reaching our potential. Of course that led to a few talks about our local government. James, you will be missed. RIP my friend!

My parents and I knew James from years of exercising at the Kroc Center. We didn´t see him much after the hurricane, but. Just last week I was thinking of him while I walked the treadmill.

When my dad could no longer go to exercise, James always asked about him, even came to my dad´s funeral.

James Pounds was a true and humble man of God.

What a man! We can only imagine how proud he was of his children and grandchildren. Praise God he was a man of faith and can now enjoy eternal life! May God bless and comfort all of the family today and in the days to come.
