James Quest Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by A Better Place Funeral & Cremation Services on Jan. 23, 2026.
James Dean Quest went home to be with the Lord on January 16, 2026. A man of unwavering faith, James lived his life as a humble and devoted servant of God, faithfully caring for those entrusted to him and reflecting God's light wherever he served.

James was born on August 12, 1970, in Grand Junction, Colorado, the son of the late James Robert Quest and Rosila Jean Quest. He was also preceded in death by his older sister, Kim Annette Crummitt. James spent part of his childhood in Alaska, a place he deeply loved and carried with him throughout his life. He cherished many wonderful memories from his time there, where his deep appreciation for the outdoors began. That love stayed with him always, as he enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, traveling, biking, and hiking, and proudly climbed several Colorado fourteeners. Known for his gentle humor and daily dad jokes, he brought warmth and laughter to those around him.

James is survived by his beloved wife, Valarie Quest; his children, Azaria Quest and Joshua Kuhns; and his mother, Rosila Jean Quest. He was a devoted father who loved his children deeply. His extended family remained a very important part of his life and held a special place in his heart. His love reached far beyond family, touching friends, coworkers, students, and countless others through his kindness, generosity, and servant's heart.

A life of service marked James' career. He served in law enforcement roles in Anchorage, Alaska, and Arvada, Colorado, and later as a Community Corrections Officer in Aurora, Colorado. His work was always guided by integrity, discernment, and a sincere concern for the safety and well-being of others.

James' favorite and most meaningful role came later in life as Director of Safety and Security at Southeast Christian School, where he became a trusted protector, leader, and mentor. He truly cared about every student-not only their safety, but their hearts and souls. He lived out the call of Philippians 2:4, looking not only to his own interests, but also to the interests of others. James greeted each child with warmth, made them feel seen and valued, and invested deeply in their lives. His presence was a beautiful reflection of God's love-humble, loyal, steadfast, reliable, and genuine.

James was a man of true faith-kind, discerning, and quietly strong. His legacy lives on through the many families, students, friends, and lives he touched. Heaven has gained a true guardian angel, and those blessed to know him trust in the fact that Jesus met him and said, "Well done, good and faithful servant." (Matthew 25:21)

Services will be held at Southeast Christian Church on Friday, January 30, 2026, located at 9650 Jordan Road, Parker, Colorado 80134. A viewing will begin at 9:00 a.m., followed by a Celebration of Life at 10:00 a.m., with a light reception immediately following.

James....the heart of a lion, the gentleness of a lamb. A man of humility, who always pointed others to Jesus, to the hope that was in him and sustained him through so much hardship and trial.
He has entered eternal rest, eternal sabbath, forevermore in the presence of the God whom he knew so well and conversed with daily.
You are truly home, James. You have made it out of the shadowlands.

What a privilege it was to call you friend.
