James Sidney Rasnic, affectionately known as Sid, passed away on Wednesday, August 27, 2025, in Potosi, Missouri, at the age of 75. Born on June 5, 1950, in Potosi, Sid lived a life dedicated to service and community.
Sid served the citizens of Washington County with honor and commitment as a deputy for the Washington County Sheriff's Department, a career that spanned from 1990 until his retirement. He was also proud to have been a Transport Officer with the U.S. Marshall Service. His dedication to law enforcement was matched by his passion for education, having completed the Law Enforcement Academy at Jefferson College after graduating with the class of 1968 from Potosi High School.
A man of diverse interests, Sid held a strong affiliation with the National Rifle Association. As an NRA Instructor, he not only taught Conceal Carry courses but also shared his enthusiasm for shooting through his hobby as an avid marksman. Sid found joy in the great outdoors, indulging in hunting and fishing, which were activities he cherished throughout his life. Sid attended Stoney Point Missionary Baptist Church.
Sid is survived by his beloved daughter, Sara Buckley, and her husband Bryan. He was a proud grandfather to three grandchildren: Makenzie Shaw and her husband Stephen, Blake Buckley, and his Fiancé Tylor Sinak, and Jaxen Buckley. Sid also had the joy of being a great-grandfather to Weston and Wrenley Shaw. In addition, he leaves behind nieces and nephews.
Sid is preceded in death by his parents, James Sidney Rasnic and Lucy (Stuthers) Rasnic, as well as his sister, Evelyn Dee, and her husband Stanley.
Visitation will take place on Sunday, August 31, 2025, from 3:00 PM to 6:00 PM at DeClue Funeral Home, located at 301 East High Street, Potosi, MO 63664. A funeral service will follow that same day, starting at 6:00 PM. Pastor Claude Evans will be officiating his service. Burial will be held at a later date.
Sid’s memory will live on through the lives he touched and the community he served so diligently. Funeral arrangements were respectfully entrusted to the care and direction of DeClue Funeral Home.
