James Rudolph Rideout, Sr., 80, Jamie or as some Old Hickory folks called him, Fuzzy, passed away peacefully on February 4, 2026, at home surrounded by his loved ones after a short battle with Parkinson's.
Jamie was preceded in death by his father, Melvin "Monk" Rideout and mother, Blanche Bain Rideout.
He is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Page Perkins Rideout, son, Jay Rideout (Diane); daughter, Amy McDaniel (Rob); his grandchildren, Nathan Rideout, Shelby Rideout, Caitlin McDaniel and Gabriel McDaniel; sister, Betty Cooke Harrison (Tommy); brother, M.B. Rideout (Joan) and many nieces and nephews.
Jamie graduated from Stony Creek High School in 1964. He served in the United States Army, stationed in Vietnam. Jamie returned home to work on the family farm with his Dad and brother. Farming became his lifelong vocation adding his son and grandson to Rideout Farms.
Jamie loved his God, Country, family and community. In 1977 he was one of the founding members of Old Hickory Fire Department. He served 3 terms as a FSA County Committee Member. He played Old Hickory Baseball for a few years and Concord Church softball. He coached Concord Youth softball for many years. Jamie was an active member of Concord UMC, Men's Club, Chairman of the Cemetery Committee and a faithful usher for many years. Just like his parents, you could count on his presence when church doors opened.
Visitation will be held 5- 7 p.m. Friday, February 6 at Owen Funeral Home, 303 S. Halifax Rd, Jarratt, Virginia where the funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Saturday, February 7. Interment will follow at Concord United Methodist Church Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Concord Cemetery Fund, c/o David Holloway, 4114 Hunt Rd, Jarratt, Virginia 23867.
