James Leslie Roberts, 85, of Big Sandy, passed away on Monday, May 1, 2023, at his home. He was born on October 15, 1937, in Pritchett, TX to the late Dave Roberts and Mary Alice (Mathis) Roberts. James married Wanda Joy Richardson. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army. He spent his career working for Eastman, taking an early retirement and then continued on to work in oil field construction.
James was adored for his great love of others and his humor. He could always keep everyone laughing and showed everyone, a friend or a stranger, a good time. He loved the Lord, first, followed by a love for his wife, children, and family, with all his heart and with a heart of gold. James was a member of the Pritchett Church of Christ and deeply loved the church and his church family. He truly shared unconditional love like no other. James could usually be found outdoors, whether it was fishing, hunting, gardening, taking care of the yard, or playing with his dogs, he enjoyed spending time outdoors, especially with family and friends.
Those left to cherish his memory include his wife of 64 years, Wanda Roberts; daughter, Angie and her husband Lon Hardin; son, Jody and his wife Sherry Roberts; grandchildren, Jessica Kidwell, Hollie Bailey, Luke Roberts, Micah Hardin, Maddie Hardin, Noah Hardin, Gabriel Hardin, Melanie Parker, Killian Dudley and Demi Beckham; twelve great-grandchildren; brother, David and his wife Carol Roberts; sister, Beth Foshee; numerous nieces and nephews and extended family members; dogs, Beaux and Gypsy Rose; and dear family friend, Barbara Holloway.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Dave and Alice Roberts; son, Tony Roberts; and sister Cleo Snow.
A Celebration of Life for James will be held on Tuesday, May 9, 2023, at 2:00 PM at the Pritchett Church of Christ, officiated by Ron Foshee. James will be laid to rest at a later date in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery.
James and his family would request, rather than sending flowers, please make a donation to the Pritchett Church of Christ, which was so important to him and his family.
