James Roland Roe, has peacefully passed away at the age of 86. He was a graduate of Greendale High School and was born on April 7, 1938, in Washington County, VA to the late Gilbert Hayden Roe and Martha Jane Wright Roe. Roland found joy in simple pleasures such as hunting and raising beagles. He enjoyed mowing his lawn and took great pride in its appearance.

Known for his loving, kind, and welcoming personality, Roland leaves behind a legacy of compassion and warmth. His impact on those around him will always be cherished and remembered. His grandchildren brought him tremendous joy and he was so proud of their accomplishments. Roland was a member of Abingdon First Church of God.

In addition to his parents, Roland was preceded in death by his wife, Sue Odum Roe; 9 siblings, Grace Mercer, Ellen Smith, Kathleen Galliher, Audrey Clark, Jessie Galliher, Ruby Smith, Charles Rowe, Tom Roe, and Hal Roe.

A graveside service will be held at Forest Hills Memory Gardens in Abingdon, VA, on April 11, 2024, at 11 am with Pastor Bob Nease officiating. Those wishing to attend the graveside service are asked to be at the cemetery by 10:45 am.

Roland is survived by his daughters Amanda Statzer (Robbie) and Ginger Wolfe (Ervin), along with his grandchildren Austin Wolfe, Taylor Statzer, and Gracie Statzer. He also leaves behind several nieces and nephews who adored him.
