I was one of Jimmy's classmates at Cardinal Spellman. He was a funny guy and straight shooter. I deeply wish he was going to our fiftieth reunion. I salute his life and heroism. I saw that his sister lives in Pearl River. I lived in Blauvelt until I moved to Santa Fe, then to Flagstaff where I had a teaching career. I still visit my family in Blauvelt and go to Shop Rite in Pearl River. I would love to shake her hand when I am there.

Never Forget... 17 years later, we are again honoring the fallen with our San Diego 9/11 Memorial Stair Climb today. I have been assigned to climb the 110 floors in honor of Chief James A. Romito. May we remember the sacrifices made by our first responders. May we as a country be inspired to the patriotism and unity that we felt following that tragic day, September 11, 2001.

I can't believe that it's been 6 years since that awful day, & there's hardly a day that I don't think about the ultimate sacrifice you made & the lives you saved by running toward the destruction. You are a true hero & I keep your memory alive by telling people about your bravery & sacrifice. I pray that you are at peace, reunited in Heaven with Mary & your son. It was an honor to know you. God Bless your Family. May your love for mankind bring them strength and courage. We will never forget you. Godspeed.

I HAVE NEVER MET THIS GENTLEMAN HOWEVER I LIVED IN NYC/AND EAST ORANGE N.J. IN THE LATE 60'S AND EARLY 70'S.THE LAST TIME I VISITED NYC AND N.J. WAS IN 1999. I AM A LONG TIME FIRE BUFF AND AFTER READING ABOUT THIS DEDICATED PUBLIC SERVANT OF SUCH A HIGH RANK WHO GAVE HIS ALL ON THAT HORRIBLE DAY OF 911 I AM EVEN MORE DEDICATED TO RESPECT FOR LAW ENFORCEMENT OFFICIALS. SOMEONE OF SUCH A HIGH RANK DID NOT EVEN HAVE TO BE THAT CLOSE TO THE ACTION---BUT HE WAS--AND HE MADE THE ULTIMATE SACRIFICE FOR HIS FELLOW MAN. MR.ROMITO IS THE EPITOMY OF A TRUE RED BLOODED AMERICAN. MY CONDOLENCES TO ALL OF HIS FAMILY AND RELATIONS . MY ONLY CONTACT WITH THIS TRUE AMERICAN IS READING ABOUT HIM ON THE WEB SITE AND HIS STORY IS SO HEARTBREAKING I JUST HAD TO RESPOND. JAMES W. BUCKNER

I had the pleasure of meeting Jim in Washington Township, NJ. I immediately liked him and found his smile matched his great personality. Since September 11, 2001 I have learned what a truly GREAT GUY he really was, it makes me sad that I was not given the opportunity to get to know him better. I feel God puts all of us in each others path for certain unknown reasons. I feel Jim was there to help and comfort those who needed him. Thats what HE was all about. He made the supreme sacrifice, his life.

I pray that his dear ones find comfort in the knowing how many of us admired him.

I mention his name to strangers, being proud that I know a true hero. For that is what he truly is. God Bless his dear ones, God Bless America

One of the area school children was handing out bracelets to wear in rememberance. I picked James because he is close to my age. Although I did not know him, I can see from his bio that we had some things in common. I pray that his family's sorrow will soon fade away so that you can truly appreciate the person James was.

It has been a long time since we were together as friends in the Bronx. You moved upstate, I moved to New Jersey, you moved to New Jersey and I moved to Florida. We had fun in the Bronx, the times sitting on the stoop on Chatterton Avenue, your pidgeon coupe, going to the Golden Gloves at St. Raymonds and St Francis,Xavia with your dad. I remember the time you played Santa Claus for my kids and you came down from the roof. I remember how you helped me move and those Thanksgivings that we topped off at your house with Irish Coffee. Jimmy you was always there for me and my family. You were a true friend.

Jim was a member of a port security training team that I had put together as Chair of the of Organization of American States Training Subcommittee. I had the opportunity to work with him in St. Lucia during Port Security Training for the countries of the Caribbean. We will miss his knowledge, his enthusiasm, and his zest.

We thank James for dedicating his life to protecting and helping others. He must have had a very warm and caring heart to have dedicated it so many people for so many years. We are deeply sorry for your loss of James. Our hearts cry with you.

America Cries

We see your sorrow-

and our hearts cry....

We can not erase your pain

but you do not have to face the anguish alone-for we-

-the American people-

are beside you.

We so desperately want to have the touch that brings you comfort,

the strength that gives you courage,

and the words to lighten your spirits.

And when we are left speechless

may the silence of our nation weave love into your hearts

to ease your sorrow.

May you find healing through our nation's strength as we-

-the American people-

face this difficult time together. Our hearts are with you. Teresa Jahn
