I had the absolute privilege and pleasure to work closely with Jim during our careers as Pediatric Ophthalmologists at Kaiser Permanente. Throughout, we shared and consulted on many dozens of patients together. When challenged by particularly difficult cases, I could always rely on Jim's expertise on complex
medical conditions. One of my earlier fun memories of Jim was the Pediatric Grand Rounds we recorded together for the Kaiser Audio visual department in December, 1993. I still have the VCR tape copy of the event on my bookcase.
Beyond Pediatric Ophthalmology, Jim also taught me about queuing theory and metrics. This was invaluable in effectively discussing access to our specialized medical field, to our administrators. I also have a copy of "Ruben's laws of Bureaucracy", full of his insightful thoughts. I will truly treasure my memories of all the fun discussions we had over the last 30+years and will dearly miss Jim. I wish to extend my deepest condolences to his family. Eddy Tamura M.D.
