James, affectionately known as Jim to his friends and loved ones was born on August 9, 1943, in McAllen, Texas, Jim was the cherished son of Walter and Helen (Zych) Rutkowski. His family relocated to Hamtramck, Michigan where he was a proud graduate of Saint Florian Catholic High School, Class of 1961, Jim's commitment to excellence was evident early on.
Jim married the love of his life, Judith, on February 10, 1964, in a heartfelt ceremony in their hometown. Jim was a devoted father to his children, Jeff (Deb) Rutkowski, Kimberly Ferner, and Jimmy (Shelly) Rutkowski. He took immense pride in his seven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren, each who felt the immeasurable joy they brought with their presence. Jim was preceded in death by his loving parents; his beloved wife, Judith of 61 years; and his daughter, Kimberly Ferner.
His professional life was marked by more than 35 years of dedicated service as a claims adjuster for Michigan Millers, from which he retired in 2009. Beyond his professional achievements, Jim's life was defined by his involvement in his community. As a coach for both baseball and basketball teams, he instilled values of teamwork and perseverance in countless young athletes. His enthusiasm didn't stop at the sidelines; Jim was a fixture at his grandchildren's games and events, always there to cheer them on with pride and encouragement.
The Rutkowski family shared a special bond with the shores of Lake Huron. At Duggan's Family Campground near Caseville, Jim and his loved ones created memories that would last a lifetime. These moments, spent in laughter and companionship, became cherished traditions that the family will hold dear forever.
Memorials in Jim's name are suggested to the Susan G. Komen Foundation.
