Obituary of James H. Silvey, Sr.

Lieutenant Commander, U.S. Navy (Ret.)

James H. Silvey, Sr., age 81, of Aston, PA, died after a short illness on Friday, August 1, 2025. Born in Chester, PA, he was a graduate of Nether Providence High School, Class of 1963. Jim was a 1965 graduate of PA Institute of Technology and a 1977 graduate of Widener University with a BS in Mechanical Engineering.

Jim devoted his life to a distinguished career in the United States Navy for 33 years. Jim was enlisted for 20 years, and during Vietnam he served with the MCB 40 (Seabees). In later years, He was part of the MCB 23. After graduating from college he was commissioned a Lt. jg then he served 13 years as an officer with the Civil Engineering Corp. His last assignment was with Inshore Undersea Warfare. He retired in 1991.

In 1993, Jim and Florence founded S-10 Environmental Inc, in Aston, PA, and continued the business until he retired.

Jim was an avid reader and loved spending time at the Jersey shore. He was very involved with St John Fisher Parish, where he was a 4th degree member of the Knights of Columbus. He served 50 years as an usher, founded the annual carnival and was co-chair of the annual plant sale.

He served many years as a Boy Scout leader, he also attended and helped with all of his sons' sports activities. James was also an avid "Dance Dad" attending recitals and helping to construct Rhythmic Visions Dance Center for his wife and daughter.

Son of the late Harry S. and Catherine E. (Smith) Silvey; Father of the late Matthew W. Silvey and James H. Silvey, Jr.

Survivors:

Loving wife of 59 years: Florence (Frame) Silvey

Daughters: Karen (Eric) Rawnsley, Laura Chung, Rachel (Dustyn) Wright

Sons: Jonathan Silvey, Richard Silvey, Daniel Silvey

Grandchildren: Corey Davis, Michael (Amanda) Davis, Sydney and Casey Chung, Nathan Silvey

Visitation: Friday, August 8th from 7:00-9:00PM at the Minshall Shropshire-Bleyler Funeral Home, Middletown (Rte. #352) & Knowlton Rds., Middletown Twp., Media, PA, 19063, and Saturday, August 9th after 9:30AM at St. John Fisher, 4225 Chichester Ave., Boothwyn, PA 19061.

Funeral Mass: Saturday, August 9th at 10:30AM at the Church of St. John Fisher, Boothwyn, PA.

Interment: Mt. Hope Cemetery.
