James Sinclair Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Carmichael Funeral Homes - Smyrna on Dec. 31, 2025.
On December 30, 2025, James Hinton Sinclair went to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. For the past year, Jim resided at The Pearl in Dallas, GA, but prior to that, he and his wife of 59 years, Margaret, lived at their home of 57 years in Smyrna, GA.
Jim grew up in Rowland, NC and graduated from NC State College. After college, he served in the US Navy aboard the USS England. At the end of his enlistment, he was stationed in Long Beach, CA where he met the love of his life, Margaret. He brought her to "God's country" in NC, but Jim soon found employment at Lockheed and settled in Smyrna, GA.
Jim enjoyed working with his hands in both woodworking and gardening. He built many furniture pieces for the family over the years. Margaret still proudly exhibits two of his more unique pieces - a giraffe coat rack and an elephant rocking "horse" - at her apartment in Dallas, GA.
Jim loved the Lord, and served in many capacities at Smyrna First Baptist Church, including deacon and Sunday school class president. Most notably, he served as a Sunday school teacher for 5 year olds for almost 30 years.
After his retirement from Lockheed in 1999 where he had worked since 1966, Jim and Margaret began traveling extensively. He enjoyed planning the sometimes month-long excursions as much as the traveling itself.
Jim was always a grateful person, and in his last few years, as his needs increased, his appreciation for every assistance increased all the more. He was generous, kind, patient, and forgiving; he lived out 1 Corinthians 13 "Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs.".
Jim is survived by his wife, Margaret, of Dallas, GA, son, Samuel Sinclair, of Newton, NC, daughter, Susan Thomason (Randy), of Austell, GA, and grandchildren Richard Thomason, Mitchell Thomason (Sydney), Parker Sinclair, and Paiton Sinclair.
A funeral service will be held at 11 am Tuesday, January 6, 2026 in the chapel of Carmichael Funeral Home in Smyrna. The family will receive friends from 4-6 pm Monday, January 5, 2026 and 10-11 am Tuesday, January 6, 2026 at the funeral home. Interment will be 1 pm Thursday, January 8, 2026 at the Georgia National Cemetery. Carmichael Funeral Home in Smyrna is in charge of arrangements.
