James Lee Sisson Sr., 73, of Poplar Bluff, Missouri, passed away peacefully on February 14, 2026, surrounded by his loving family.
James was born on March 20, 1952, in Bragg City, Missouri, to Farist Sisson and Elizabeth (Crafton) Sisson. He was the youngest of thirteen children: Lilburn, Dorothy, Mary, Stella, David, Thomas, Carl, Sheila, Louise, Betty, Sissy, and Baby.
On April 4, 1992, he married the love of his life, Shelly. They shared 34 years full of love and laughter. He was a proud father to Robyn (Frank) Arnone, James Lee Sisson Jr., Jenae Sisson, Natalie (Matthew) Wendland, and Jerra (Seth) Phillips.
James retired from the city water treatment plant. Following his retirement, he enjoyed the simple things in life — driving his old red truck around town, working in his shop, attending his grandkid’s ball games, going on trips with his wife, Shelly, and spending time with family and friends.
James’s greatest joy was being a grandfather to Madison and Cassie Dollins, Gianna and Vincent Arnone, Mason Burpo, River and Mila Sisson, and Chase and Brantley Phillips. He cherished every moment spent with his grandchildren and the happiness they brought into his life.
He shared special bonds with his brother in law, Teddy Cooper, nephews Raymond Reece, Butch Clayton, Ricky Reece, and Jesse “Bim” Clayton. He also treasured his special friendship with Paul Conover.
James is survived by his loving wife, children, grandchildren, extended family, and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and all of his siblings.
Visitation will be held from 11:00 a.m. to 12 p.m. on Wednesday, February 18, 2026, at Fowler-Sullivan Funeral Home in Poplar Bluff, Missouri, with funeral services to follow in the chapel and burial at Memorial Gardens.
