Verna,

I want to extend my deepest condolences to you and your family. I remember your sisters, Gracey and Brenda; we were in class together. Your brothers, Isaac and Nathan, we played together, especially your brother Isaac, who was my dearest friend. My heart aches to hear of the passing of your husband, Tom, a true Soldier.

Tom had a significant influence on my mother, which inspired me to join the military. Back in the seventies, he and I dove off the same diving board at the Donaldsonville community swimming pool.

We walked to the playhouse together a few times, discussing how to dive from that high board. He was a role model for me, even though he may not have realized it.

I will truly miss your husband, Tom. During this difficult time, may God keep you healthy and safe.
