James "Jim" Robert Sobotka, age 82 of Glade Valley, NC; passed away Tuesday, June 18th, 2024 at Trinity Village in Hickory, NC.
Jim was born August 5th, 1941 in Ringgold County, IA to the late Robert Milton and Shirley Irene Loudon Sobotka. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Wanda Lee Lyddon Sturm Sobotka; a daughter, Sheila Rae Silver; a sister, Sharon Sue Overholser.
Jim was a graduate of Diagonal Iowa High School. He lived throughout his life in Diagonal, IA, Shelton, WA, Tarkio, MO, Bethlehem, NC and Glade Valley, NC. He was a retired Home Builder and Sawmill Operator. He enjoyed camping, woodworking, cooking, and being with family and friends.
Survivors include a son, Mike Sobotka of Shelton, WA; three step-children: Kim Jones and husband Curtis of Bethlehem, NC, Robert Sturm and wife Tianna Jefferson of Captain Cook, HI, Brian Sturm of Glade Valley, NC; seven grandchildren: Jessica Morgan, James Sobotka and wife Jessica, Mattie Neely and husband Joshua, Shane Mitchell, Michael Sobotka, Sarah Baker, and Mackenzie Cunningham; four step-grandchildren: Nicole Jones-Baldwin, Lindsay Lampert and husband Matt, Stuart Jones and wife Meghan, Miles Jones and wife Cheyenne; five great-grandchildren: Breonna Ritchie, Trevor Neely, Oliver Sobotka, Jameson Baker, Carter Neely, and Samuel Sobotka; three step-great-grandchildren: Levi Baldwin, Watson Jones, and Makynlee Jones; two nephews: Matt and Brad Overholser.
Jim will be transferred from Sparta to Armstrong Funeral Home in Mount Ayr, IA.
A Graveside Service will be held at 2:30 pm Saturday, June 29th, 2024 at Bohemian Cemetery southeast of Diagonal, IA.
A gathering will be held following the service at the Diagonal Community Center in Diagonal.
Memorials may be made to Bohemian Cemetery 1762 200th St., Diagonal, IA 50845.
