James "Peanut" Springs

1946 - 2023

Mr. James Doward "Peanut" Springs, 76, of Hemingway passed away Saturday, July 29, 2023, surrounded by his family.
Mr. Springs was born on September 10, 1946, in Lake City, son of the late Doward W. Springs and Bessie M. Springs Driggers. He attended Leo Church of God and was a Veteran of the United States Army. His passion for the military was expressed through the many stories he would tell about his time in the Army. Peanut had a God given talent of playing the guitar and loved playing his many guitars and singing. He loved singing and playing in Church with his brother, Dudley and going to karaoke with Johnette and Joe. He loved spending time with his niece and caretakers, Johnette, Joe, great niece Dana (Trey), great nephew D. J. (Tabitha) and being with their children, who he considered as his grands and great grands.
Surviving are his son, Jason Springs of Johnsonville; brother, Dudley Springs of Vox; sisters, Lois Wagner of Murrells Inlet and Lucille Mauldin of Garden City; niece and caretakers, Johnette (Joe) Coker of Timmonsville; great niece, Dana (Rev. Trey) Belangia of Sumter; great nephew, D. J. (Tabitha) Sims of Lake City; both of whom were caretakers for their Uncle Peanut; great-great nieces, Makinley Belangia, Stephanie Belangia, and Lilly Belangia, all of Sumter, Blakely Sims and Hunterlynn Sims, both of Lake City; and a number of nieces and nephews.
Mr. Springs was preceded in death by sisters, Aileen (Bill) Hanna and Betty Joe Springs; brother, William (Eula Mae) Springs; special sister-in-law, Shirley Springs; brothers-in-law, Paul Wagner and Jerry Mauldin; special brother-in-law, "Drip" Waldrep.
The family would like to give a special thanks to Ms. Mary Ann Lougheed "Marine Lady" of MUSC Black River and Amedisys Hospice for all the love and care they provided to our Uncle Peanut and his family.
The family will receive friends 2:00 – 3:00 PM, Sunday, August 6, 2023 at Carolina Funeral Home.
Celebration of Life will be 3:00 PM, Sunday, August 6, 2023, at Carolina Funeral Home Chapel, with Military Honors.
