James Robert Stein was born October 3, 1937 in New Ulm to Carl and Ellen (Enter) Stein. He attended Immanuel Lutheran school in rural Courtland and Nicollet High School. James grew up on the family farm and spent his entire life there, farming the land and raising Angus cattle. Until recently, he continued to enjoy doing chores and caring for the farm he loved. James found happiness outdoors, especially on hunting trips to South Dakota and Montana. He also enjoyed watching sports and took great pride in attending his grandchildren's and great-grandchildren's activities. He was known as a giving, easygoing, humble man who valued a simple life. His home was his haven, and time spent with family meant the most to him. James was a lifelong member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, where he was baptized, confirmed, and married. His faith remained an important part of his life. He will be remembered for his kindness, quiet strength, and devotion to his family, faith, and farm. Blessed be his memory.

Memorials preferred to Immanuel Lutheran School PTL gym floor fund.
