Knoxville, Tennessee - James Doyle Stuard (Jim, Jimmie - Stuee to his Postal friends) passed away December 13, 2024.
Funeral: 2:30 p.m. Saturday, December 21, 2024 in Greenwood's Live Oak Chapel, 3100 White Settlement Rd., Fort Worth, TX 76107. Interment: Greenwood Memorial Park. Visitation: 12 to 2 p.m. Saturday, December 21, 2024 in Memorial Suite B at Greenwood Funeral Home, 3344 White Settlement Rd., Fort Worth, TX 76107.
Jim was born June 9, 1944 (D-Day) to George Ross Stuard and Emma Ernestine Stuard in Fort Worth, Texas. He grew up in Smithville and Austin, Tx. He spent summers in Fort Worth with his father as a young boy and graduated high school in Austin at Albert Johnston. Jim attended college in Arlington, Tx at the University of Arlington (UTA) graduating with a Bachelor of History degree.
He was drafted into the United States Army in 1968 learning to be in radio communications. After being honorably discharged, he made his job profession being a courier. First with Mail Messengers which later became Purolator Courier. Not only being a courier he moved up the line becoming a radio dispatcher and supervisor. It's there he met his wife, Marie. After five years they married. She left the company so Jim could retire from Purolator because married couples could not work together. Jim received numerous safe driving awards. He retired from there in 1987.
Jim decided to join the United States Postal Service. He loved this job making new friends in the work place and in route being a letter carrier working in the White Settlement Branch, Trinity River and Ridglea Office. There he also received many safe driving awards and awards for not using sick leave.
Jim was forced to retire after 32 years with the postal service after having a bad vehicle wreck. The accident caused multiple problems to his body the last five years of his life.
Jim loved to travel while on vacation and the Great Smoky Mountains of East Tennessee became such a favorite that he wanted to live in the area. Finally his dream materialized and he was able to move with Marie to Knoxville, Tennessee in March of 2023. Sadly, he didn't get to live long in Knoxville until his passing.
He was preceded in death by his father, George Ross Stuard; mother, Ernestine Cardwell; stepfather, Frank Cardwell; brothers, George David Stuard, of Fort Worth and Joe and Paul Cardwell, of Marble Falls, Tx; sister, Emma Lou Pippin, of Robbinsville, Mississippi; and sister-in-law, Linda Stuard, of Fort Worth.
Survivors include wife of 40 years, Marie, of Knoxville, Tennessee; brother, Bill Cardwell (Shirley), of Bertram, Tx; sister-in-law, Patricia Willis, of Shady Spring, West Virginia; many nieces, nephews and cousins; the brothers and sisters from Branch 226 Fort Worth United States Postal Service; special friend of 27 years, Garth Jones; and all the friends made in Knoxville.
