James Swieton Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Damar-Kaminski Funeral Home & Crematorium - Justice on Aug. 7, 2025.
James "Jim" Henry Swieton, 61, passed away in his hometown after a life of adventure, laughter and just the right amount of mischief. The proud father of four passed away August 5th, 2025 doing what he did best - living life on his own terms.

Jim lived life like he was trying to get a speeding ticket. Born in the Back of the Yards, Jim's childhood was filled with baseball, Boy Scouts, and getting into trouble – usually with a grin on his face and a clever excuse ready. He grew up alongside his sister Diane, who knew better than to follow his plan, but often did anyways.

Jim lived life the only way he knew how, on his own terms. He had a passion for anything fast loud and slightly dangerous – cars, motorcycles, snow mobiles, dirt bikes and had an uncanny ability to talk his way out of (and sometimes into) trouble. He was an great pool player, loved live music, techy gadgets, and has worked many different careers throughout his life. And through the ups and downs he never stopped being JIM, raising a little hell while doing it. His sister Diane and brother-in-law Tom will fondly remember his larger-than-life personality and the countless stories that will keep his memory alive.

He is preceded in death by his beloved wife and love of his life Kathy, who passed away in 2023. He is survived by his four children, Alex, Amanda, Christian and Ryan, all of whom inherited at least some of his adventurous spirit (and stubbornness) and will take anyone on in game of pool. When his daughters were young they spent their time on go karts and motorcycles before helmets were cool but once his sons came along, they became his dirt biking crew, blazing trails and collecting stories they will never forget.

Jim wasn't one for seriousness, formality, or following the rules – but he was loyal, full of life, and deeply loved by those who knew him. He was always up for adventure and often flew by the seat of his pants, usually landing on his feet (somehow). Jim had a wide circle of friends full of stories - some true, some exaggerated, and some no ones quite brave enough to tell. He's made a lot of memories in this lifetime.

Here's to Jim Swieton – you did it your own way & it was one hell of a ride.
