James Deward Taylor

James Deward Taylor, age 82, passed away peacefully at his home in Fair Grove on Thursday, September 15th, following a lengthy battle with cancer.
He was born at home on his family's farm in North Springfield on March 22, 1940.
He attended, and graduated High School in Fair Grove, MO. In 1958.
Shortly thereafter, he married his high school sweetheart, Burna Belle Huff (Taylor) and together, with their sons, have run their family farm in Fair Grove to this day.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Fonnie and Ruby Taylor, and siblings, Thelma Cohen, Richard Taylor, Robert Taylor add Nellie Vetter.
He is survived by his wife, Burna Belle, of 64 years, their 3 children, Terry Taylor, Tina Taylor Wilson and Tim Taylor, 4 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren and one brother, Fonnie Taylor Jr.
James was loved and respected by many! In High School he excelled in Basketball and afterward continued to play for Dayton Rubber and other Fair Grove and Springfield teams.
He achieved much success as a stock car racer in the early and mid 1960's and in 2018 was inducted into the Ozarks Area Racer's Hall of Fame and was awarded the Racing Legend Award.
James was known for his hard work ethic. He ran a successful dairy farm in Fair Grove from 1967-1987 and has continued to run a thriving beef farm with his sons, Terry and Tim to the present day.
In the early years, James helped to lead the local 4H horsemanship group with his friend and mentor, Joe Huff, and helped his kids show dairy cattle at the Ozark Empire Fair.
He was also active in the Fair Grove Saddle Club and Lion's Club.
James enjoyed, and always looked forward to get togethers with his classmates and friends.
Many a young man drew strength, courage and inspiration from the life he lived. He was a legend in the eyes of so many and his influence and legacy will remain strong for generations to come.
Visitation to be held Wednesday Sept 21st, 5-8pm at Greenlawn East and Funeral services will be Thursday, Sept 22nd at 10am at the Fair Grove United Methodist Church.
