James Kelly Taylor Jr.

James K. Taylor, 81, of New Kent was called home by the Lord Thursday October 23, 2025 to join his devoted wife, Barbara and their beloved son Wesley. He is survived by sons Terrence (Timnah) and John Sterling (Breezy) of Richmond. He also leaves behind his beloved companion, Theresa Morris Taylor, countless friends and "adopted" family.
Jim was a lifelong public servant. His path in service began at 17 when he enlisted in the Army and served several years with the 5th Special Forces Group doing two tours in Vietnam. When he returned to civilian life, he applied to the Henrico Police Department and went through their training academy but ultimately landed his dream job with the Virginia Department of Wildlife Resources as a Conservation Police Officer where he remained until his retirement in 2002.
He enjoyed his time being connected to the Men's Ministry on Monday nights. Jim was grateful for all the men that he forged lifelong and life-giving relationships with. He was strong in his faith, active in his church and eager to share his love with others. He accomplished this through his story telling, acts of generosity, compassion, hugs and the occasional tomfoolery.
He would want everyone to keep loving, keep serving and keep giving to further the Kingdom of God.
A Celebration of Life service will be held 11am Saturday, November 15, 2025 in the sanctuary at New Kent Christian Center. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to New Kent Christian Center in Jim's honor.
