James Zidor Theriault, passed away peacefully on Sunday, December 21st, 2025, at the age of 74, surrounded by the love of his children.
Born on November 11, 1951 in
Fort Kent, Maine, James lived a life defined by hard work, resilience, and love for his family. In his early years, James served in the Marine Corps and eventually went to diesel mechanic school where he learned to work on diesel engines and heavy machinery. His love of being near the ocean led him to move to Cape Cod where he resided for decades and raised his family.
He was always proud to share that he was the 11th child born to the late Maxime Theriault and Emelda (Pelletier) Theriault, on the 11th day of the 11th month. He was a devoted Father, Pepè, Great-Grandfather, and friend whose presence brought stability, warmth, and lots of humor to those around him.
To his children, he was a constant source of love and guidance-he would drop anything in a heartbeat to be there for his loved ones. Always steady, always there. He took pride in his family and found his greatest joy in the time spent together, whether in big celebrations or in quiet everyday moments. James, known to many as "Frenchy", will be remembered for his ability to "fix anything". He found joy in cooking exceptional meals, being outdoors, and he had an eye for seeing potential where others saw flaws. His legacy lives on in the values he passed down and the love he leaves behind.
He is survived by his 6 children and their spouses, James M. (Kristen) Theriault of Springfield, MA, Norma (Mario Ferrero) Theriault of Ludlow, MA, Christina (Andy) Surner of Belchertown, MA, Gianna (Mike) Diefendorf of Odenton, MD, Bianca (Justin Elliott) Perella-Theriault of Selkirk, NY, and Elisa (Matt Pasic) Perella-Theriault of
Cotuit, MA.
James leaves behind his beloved grandchildren, Brandon, James Michael Jr, Kristopher, Juliette, Olivia, LeeAnna, Mario, Lila, Ella, Amelia and Mason, and great-grandchildren, Lucas, Crew, and Macie.
In addition to his immediate family, James leaves behind beloved siblings, nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends.
A celebration of life and burial will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to
St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, a cause he deeply cared about.
Though our hearts are heavy, we take comfort in knowing his love remains with us always, and he is resting at eternal comfort and peace.
