James M. Thomas, 75, died February 5, 2023 after his battle with lung cancer at Chesapeake Regional Hospital. He was born July 08, 1947 in Uniontown, PA. The son of Albert Thomas and Eleanor Jean Pegg. He graduated from Ligonier high school class of 65' after which he enlisted in the US Navy and served 1 tour in Vietnam. He retired from 22 years of service as a Command Master Chief (BTCM). He went on to receive his associate's degree from St. Leo University Class of 94' while working his 2nd career at Lyon Shipyard as a Quality Assurance manager. James married Cathleen Connery in 1971 who later died in 1996. Married Bette Baulus in 98' until present. He was a member of The Knights of Columbus, VFW, The Fleet reserve association, and former Scout Master. Jim was a great Mentor to so many. He was also the most generous soul. Jim taught and lived his faith. Loving father and husband. He was predeceased by his parents Albert and Eleanor Thomas; brother, Michael who died at birth; sister, Peggy Wingert; and first wife Cathleen A Thomas (Connery).
Surviving in addition to his wife Bette (Baulus) Thomas; are his daughter, Julie Cenac (Clay) of Houma, LA; son, Patrick Thomas of Oak Ridge, NJ; daughter, Tara Charlton (Harold) of Moss Point, MS; step son, Drew, step daughter, Tina; step daughter, Pattie; step daughter, Terri; step son, David, and step daughter Beth. Along with 24 grandchildren and 32 great grandchildren. Nephews Bill Wingert (Carrie) and Tommy Wingert (Jennifer).
Visitation will be February 13, 2023 from 5 P.M to 7P.M at Catholic Church of St. Mark 1505 Kempsville Rd., Virginia Beach, Va. 23464 followed by mass of Christian burial at 7 P.M with Father Dan Klem. In lieu of flowers the family ask for donations to The American Cancer Society. Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Kempsville Chapel is assisting the family.
