Wonderful veterinarian and teacher. Considered him my friend Alan farnsworth class of 1978

Tough news to hear. Dr. Thompson was one of a kind and a true treasure. He impacted so many of us and he will be missed. Take care.

DOC THOMPSON is the true "Gentle Doctor" we all strove to be. For the Class of 1988 he was one of a kind.

Jim will be missed. He was one of the truly good ones!

I extend my condolences to Dr. Thompson's family. Dr. Thompson was one of my favorite instructors and mentors during Veterinary School.

Mrs. Dr. Thompson, I had you for equine ambulatory, but cattle are my love. Mr. Dr. Thompson was one of my favorites. He didn't get excited and was patient, which are great skills for an instructor. I am truly sorry to hear of his passing.

Sorry to hear about the passing of Jim. He was a veterinary classmate of mine at Iowa State. I always admired his knowledge, quiet demeanor, love of animals and the profession. Thankfully, I got to see him over the years when I was visiting the veterinary school. John Schnackel

I just saw in the Alumni Newsletter that Jim passed away last month. I must have missed an announcement from the college, otherwise I would have reached out to pass my condolences sooner. Jim was a great instructor and mentor as a faculty member. He laugh (along with Karl's) were unforgettable and the joy they used to have together while teaching students was honorable. Please let me know if you need anything.

What a beautiful obituary for Dr. Thompson. His slow smile lit up his face. His calm demeanor teaching students was amazing. He had the best laugh and it was always a goal of mine to get him to use it. His legacy lives on in all of the food animal veterinarians he impacted. My condolences to his family and friends. Sharing a photo of the "dynamic duo" from ISU Food Animal - so many of us remember these two as highlights in our veterinary education!

Jim was a great classmate in College of Vet Med. Didn't say much but when he did it was important. He had a great smile and was so kind to everyone.

One of my favorite Vet School instructors. Enjoyed learning from him and discussing cases with him in the barn during my time at ISU. He was a positive influence on many of us food animal veterinarians.

Enjoyed playing pickleball with Jim a few years back. He was a gentle soul indeed. Always a smile when we would meet. So sorry for your loss.
