Harper-Morris Memorial Chapel - PensacolaJames Edward Thompson, 79, of Pensacola, FL passed away on Thursday, March 5, 2026.
He was born on July 7, 1946, in Zanesville, OH, to Iva J. Thompson and Lindy E. Thompson. As the son of a US Army serviceman, he grew up in many places. He later served in the US Army, stationed in the Philippines and then at Fort Meade, MD.
He built a long career in information technology, working 11 years at First National Bank of Maryland and later spending 25 years with McCormick & Company.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Iva J. Thompson and Lindy E. Thompson, as well as his wife, Dorothy J. Thompson.
Survivors include his daughter, Jennifer Deirmengian, MD (husband-Greg Deirmengian, MD); his grandchildren, Gregory, Victoria and Rebecca; his sister, Linda T. Carden; his aunt, Beverly Francisca; his uncle, Franklin Hartsell; as well as many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
A funeral cortege will depart Harper-Morris Memorial Chapel at 11:00am for a graveside service that begins at 11:30am Wednesday, May 13, 2026, at Barrancas National Cemetery, with military honors.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to: Wounded Warrior Project, PO Box 758516, Topeka, KS 66675.
The family wishes to thank his caregivers, Matthew Norwood and Easter Welch. They would also like to thank VITAS Hospice, especially Alexis Buker, RN, and the staff of the VITAS Hospice Unit of Sacred Heart Hospital.
He will be remembered with love by all those who knew him.
