Lenzburg, Illinois - James C. Torrens, 85, of Lenzburg, IL, born February 1, 1938 in Sparta, IL, passed away on Saturday July 1, 2023 at Barnes-Jewish Hospital in St. Louis, MO . Jim was a long-time farmer and coal miner. He was a United States Army veteran and member of the VFW.
He was preceded in death by his parents - Curtis and Hazel (McDaniel) Torrens and his beloved wife - the former Lela M. Falkenhein, whom he married on October 14, 1961 in Belleville, IL and who preceded him on January 20, 2021.
Jim is survived by his daughter - Tammy (Vince) Kiefer, Jr, grandchildren - Vincent (Ciara) Kiefer III, James Kiefer, Leah Kiefer, and great grandson - Vander Kiefer.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are encouraged to be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital or to the American Cancer Society.

Visitation: Visiting hours are from 10 a.m. until 12 p.m. on Thursday July 6, 2023 at Heil-Schuessler Funeral Home in New Athens, IL.
Funeral: Services will be held at 12 p.m. on Thursday July 6, 2023 at Heil-Schuessler Funeral Home in New Athens, IL with Rev. Dr. Robert Koch officiating. Entombment will follow at Valhalla Gardens Mausoleum in Belleville, IL.

Condolences to the family,
I have great memories of Jim and Lela back in the good ole softball days, at southside park.
Recently at his birthday party, Jim and I sat down and had a great conversation at the bar, discussing softball and various past players, however Jim's most important topic was family.
He introduced some of his grandchildren, their activities and emphasized how very, very proud he was of them all.
At that point, Jim's heightened smile and tone, I will most remember.

We are so very sorry for your loss. Jim was one of a kind. He was a good man and a lot of fun. I was proud to have worked for Jim at Shamrock for several years. Started out playing volleyball, then barmaid and ended as manager. I miss those days when him, Kenny, Russ & Barb, Soup & Carol, and sometimes another friend or two, would come in. Fun times. James got to know him from going out to Shamrock and also played volleyball. Jim always called him 'son.'
He will be missed. RIP Jim.

I am sorry to hear that Jim passed away. We were in the service together and had a good time. We also enjoyed Florida for a while and had a great time while we were there Jim I hope there´s a Florida in heaven.

Our thoughts are with the family. Jim and my father were in the service together and were lifelong friends. The world lost a good one. RIP Jim, hope you and Buzz are up there telling stories and laughing it up!
