James Townsend Obituary

James A. Townsend, Jr., 83, of North Syracuse, passed away on Monday June 23, 2025 after a long battle with Alzheimer's. James was born in Syracuse on November 5, 1941 son of the late James, Sr. and Sarah Townsend. He served in the US Navy from 1961-63and retired from Lockheed Martin as a Supervisor in the Radar Division. After his retirement he was employed by Syracuse University Parking & Transportation. In his later years Jim always enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.
He is survived by his loving wife, of 64 years, Carol Townsend, 4 children, Kim (Al) Sauer, Tracey (Kevin) Poplawski, Christopher Townsend, Melissa (David) Bernhardt, 9 grandchildren, Andrew, Ryan, Cory, Kaylee, Eric, Kristen, Payton, Riley, Connor, 6 great grandchildren; Madilyn, Paxton, Mikayla, Mac, Leon, Mila and sister, Judy (Chuck) Symer, along with nieces and nephews.
Services will be private at the convenience of the family.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Upstate Geriatrics at the Nappi Center.

I have done Jim's hair for over 20 years...it has been an absolute pleasure knowing him, laughing with him, and taking care of him. My heart goes out to each and every one of you as I keep you all in my thoughts and prayers during this time. God bless
