James Tracy Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Woodbine Funeral Home - Hickory Chapel on Feb. 14, 2026.
James Ivan Tracy, 69, of Murfreesboro, Tennessee, passed away peacefully on February 4, 2026.

Born on May 22, 1956, in Nashville, Tennessee, James was the cherished son of Johnnie Tracy and Helen (Owens) Tracy. Raised in Nashville, he grew into a man defined by dedication, intelligence, and heart, eventually building a career as an aerospace engineer. His work reflected his sharp mind and steady determination, qualities that carried through every aspect of his life.

Above all else, James was devoted to his family and friends. He had a deep love for football and NASCAR, and he rarely missed a chance to cheer on his favorite teams and drivers. Known for his kindness, quiet strength, generosity, and unwavering loyalty, James had a way of making others feel valued and welcome. His fatherly sense of humor, warm smile, and compassionate spirit will be remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing him. Some of his other greatest joys were spending time with family and friends, and he especially treasured walks with his grand-dog, Peanut.

James is survived by his loving daughter, Ciara Smith; his brothers, Don and Pat Tracy; his nieces, Jennifer Miller, Heather Owens, Michelle Kaylor, and Leanne VanHouten; his nephew, William Tracy Jr.; and his special friends, Mike Lancaster, Marilyn Travis, Billy Fewell, and Dianne Tosh. He was preceded in death by his beloved parents, Johnnie and Helen Tracy.

Visitation will be held on Monday, February 16, 2026, at Woodbine Funeral Home, Hickory Chapel, from 12:00 noon to 1:45 p.m. followed by graveside services at 2:30 p.m. at Woodlawn Cemetery.

Though he will be deeply missed, James's love, laughter, and steady presence will remain in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.
