James Earl Tynes, 79, of Newalla, Oklahoma, passed away on November 19, 2025.

James was a devout Christian who read his Bible daily and walked closely with the Lord in every area of his life. His faith guided his steps and shaped the way he loved, served, and lived.

He was born on October 19, 1946, in Wilson, Oklahoma. James dedicated 37 years to the United States Air Force, 30 of them on active duty. Through steadfast leadership and commitment, he rose to the rank of Chief Master Sergeant before retiring. A committed scholar, he earned a master’s degree in Aeronautical Engineering, as well as several bachelor’s degrees.

James was preceded in death by his father, John Tynes; his mother, Ruth Tynes; and his brother, Clifford Tynes.

He is survived by his loving wife, Sandy Tynes; his children, Reggie Tynes, Tangie Tynes, Tassie Burke, and Rusty Tynes; and his siblings Bo Tynes, Virginia Maness, and Buddy Tynes.

Outside of his military career, James was a devoted family man who found peace in the outdoors. He loved hunting, camping, and spending time in the woods, especially when surrounded by his family.

A viewing will be held at ASA Smith Funeral Home in Harrah on Monday, November 24th, from 3:00 to 8:00 p.m.

Funeral services will be held at Choctaw Road Baptist Church on Tuesday, November 25th, at 10:00 a.m.

James will be remembered for his unwavering faith, his service to his country, his love for family, and the joy he found in God’s creation. His legacy lives on in all who knew and loved him.
