James Dean Umphress
March 2, 1953 - December 3, 2025
James Dean Umphress, 72, of Bedford, passed away on Wednesday, December 3, 2025 at his residence.
Born March 2, 1953, in Bedford, he was the son of Wilma Umphress.
James graduated from Bedford High School with the class of 1971.
He retired from the United States Postal Service after many years. After retiring he worked for the Department of Natural Resources at Paynetown at Lake Monroe in the gatehouse.
James enjoyed playing poker, bowling, playing baseball, and loved all sports.
Surviving are his son, Rhett Umphress; grandchild; sister, Kathy (Rick) Walt; brother-in-law, Jeff Fender; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his mother and sister, Cindy Fender.
Funeral service will be at 1:00 P.M. on Wednesday, December 10, 2025 at the Limestone Chapel of George Funeral Care, 527 15th Street in Bedford. Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery, Bedford.
Visitation will be from 11:00 A.M. until the service hour on Wednesday at the Limestone Chapel in Bedford.
