I sorry to hear about your lost and I would like to share with the family a comforting scripture at John11:25" Jesus said I am the resurrction and the life he that exercises faith in me, even though he dies will come to life.

Dr. Van Allen was a great man, a mentor, a scientist and a role model. Although I only met him a few times, he played a significant role in my life through his mentoring of my father. He taught his students to believe. I truly do not believe that my father would have had the dedication he did if not for Dr. Van Allen.
Dr. Van Allen brought more than just a belief in sciences to the University of Iowa; he brought dedication--seen in his work and all the work of those who followed him. He was a wonderful man. His family has my deepest sympathy.

It is with great saddness that I learned of Dr. Van Allen's passing. I was his student in General Astronomy for only one semester, but I recall that class as one on the best I attended. It has always been one of my proudest boasts that I was his student. The University of Iowa is diminished by his loss.

Thank you for all you did with your life. May the family find comfort in the fact that yours was a very productive and benefitial life that influenced science and many lives. Be encouraged in the Lord
