Life Reflections
There must be rest for Me, I know, There must be a place where Christian folks may go.
James AKA "Bull" Vereen sang this song many times and on, Saturday June 8, 2024 the song came to past that it was time for him to take his eternal rest. James was born on August 8, 1957 to the late Arvella Vereen Bryan and the late Douglas Chestnut. He was reared by his grandparents the late Brinkley and Ruth Gause Vereen. James was given the nickname "Bull" by his grandfather, Brinkley.
At an early age, he began to sing and play various instruments. He accepted Christ as his Lord and Savior, and was a member of Popular AME Church. "Somewhere to Lay My Head" was also song by James and he rock the church house until the "Holy Spirit" moved and touch the hearts of many. He was the choir musician for many area churches. James was a graduate of the North Myrtle Beach Class of 1977 where he played football and many other sports. He was employed with Thomas Roofing Company. He never met a stranger, because he would ask "who you" or what is your name.
James leaves cherish memories to Martha Water of Loris, SC, the love and soulmate of his life; his children, Paulette Evans Ford, Lashander Vaught, Gerrick (DeAnna) Vaught and Dereka Vaught; nine grandchildren; two great grands; his siblings, Vangeline (McKenneth) Woodberry, Ruthie Vereen, Terry (Allison) Vereen, Carlos (Sandra) Bryan and Charlene (George) Willard; aunts, Florence Moore, Mary Livingston and Uzenia Vereen; uncles, Ralph Chestnut and Edmund Chestnut; great aunt, Sophie Vereen; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.

. The family is meeting at the home of his sister Ms. Morris Vereen 3198 Brinkley Rd. Longs, SC 29568.
The Viewing will be held Wed. June 12, 2024 at Latimer's Funeral Home 2-6PM.
The Funeral will held Thursday, June 13,2024 at Popular AME Church 1PM.
Burial will follow in The Popular Cemetery.
