James E Walton, the boy from Chandler Hill in Northern Michigan, passed away at home on November 7, 2025, at the age of 84 where he was lovingly cared for by his devoted wife and grandson during his Alzheimer’s journey.
James’ greatest joy in life was serving Christ. He did this through serving as a Sunday school teacher, a Bible Bowl leader, and planting churches in Michigan and Tennessee. One of his favorite Bible verses can be found in Mark chapter 16, verse 16, “The one who has believed and has been baptized will be saved; but the one who has not believed will be condemned.” He was always heard saying “Do the right thing!” whenever someone asked for advice.
James was born to Ernest and Marjorie Walton and raised on Chandler Hill on a farm. He worked many blue-collar jobs early in his life. Later in life, he worked in the Defense Logistics Agency for 25 years and was known for his integrity. He enjoyed 26 years of retirement with his family traveling across the country, camping, and deer hunting.
James is survived by his devoted wife of 43 years, Carol; his children Laura Hampton, James P (Gayle) Walton, Julia (Mike) Gearing, Joseph Walton, and Jonathon Walton; 14 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren, and nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ernest and Marjorie Manley Walton and brother Ernest L Walton.
A celebration of life service will be held on Saturday, November 15th at 3pm at Worthington Christian Church 8145 North High Street, Columbus Ohio with Tom Sherrod officiating.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to New Churches of Christ Evangelism at P.O. Box 1031 Mount Pleasant, Michigan, 48804, or to the Alzheimer’s Association.
