James V. "Jimmy" Wells, 82, of Finley, Tennessee, died on Wednesday, November 19, 2025, at Union City Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Union City, Tennessee.
Born Saturday, April 10, 1943, he was the son of the late John Lucas Wells, Jr. and the late Mary Ruth Vincent Wells.
Jimmy was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. Jimmy retired from BellSouth and AT&T after thirty-five years of dedicated service. He also proudly served his country in the Tennessee National Guard for eight years.
A man of deep faith, Jimmy was a committed member of Finley Baptist Church. In his younger years, he served as Sunday School Superintendent and Sunday School teacher, touching countless lives through his leadership and devotion. Jimmy served as a Deacon for fifty years.
Jimmy was an avid golfer who enjoyed many cherished friendships made on the course. He was also a proud supporter of the University of Tennessee Volunteers Football Team.
Civically minded and dedicated to his community, Jimmy served two terms as a Dyer County Commissioner for District E. His commitment to service and willingness to help others were evident throughout his life.
One of Jimmy's greatest joys in later years was baking cookies for his great-grandchildren, a simple act that brought him immense happiness and created sweet memories for his family.
Jimmy will be remembered for his faith, his kindness, his love for his community, and most of all, his unwavering love for his family.
A Celebration of Life Service for Mr. Wells will be held at 5:00 PM on Saturday, November 22, 2025, the Chapel of Johnson-Williams Funeral Home. Officiating the service will be Bro. Charlie Haliburton and Bro. Trevor Sewell. Visitation for Mr. Wells will be held on Saturday from 3:00 PM until 5:00 PM at Johnson-Williams Funeral Home.
He is survived by his wife of fifty-nine years, Mary Kay Hall Wells of Finley, Tennessee; two daughters, Dawn Priest (Robbin) of Obion, Tennessee and Tracye Myers (Jim) of Medina, Tennessee. He was "Grand Pa" to his five grandchildren; Ashton Wilkerson (Tevin), Allison McCann (Ryan), Wells Myers, Colby Priest (Macy) and Bryan Myers and three great grandchildren, Emi Wilkerson, Madi Grace McCann and Elijah " Eli" McCann.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, John L. Wells, III and great granddaughter, Mari Evan Wilkerson.
