To Linda and the family, Please accept my condolences. Jim and I go back to our time at the Cuyahoga Regional Planning Commission. He was so smart and so irreverent. I learned a lot about Planning from Jim. I also learned a lot about humor from him as well. I always enjoyed being in his presence. I have only good memories of Jim. Sue and I hope your memories of him bring some comfort to you.

Best wishes,

Howard Maier

Jim was brilliant, but he always said he preferred being where everyone else in the room was smarter than he was. He was the most practical environmentalist I´ve ever known, and that´s what will stay with me always. Well, that and his sly humor.

I met Jim at CABBS, a boat building club in Cleveland. It was 2019 and we hit it off, he taught me many things without me realizing he was mentoring. I was honored to assist him in the construction of Laurentia. Jim had a story for everything, every tool, every piece of wood, every event and a razor sharp wit. I am sorry we met so late in life, I'm sure we would have gotten into a lot of trouble together.
I will cherish the time we spent a few weeks ago watching a football game at the rehab center in Brecksville, Jim was his usual happy sarcastic self the last evening together. God bless you Jim.

Jim was a treasure and inspiration for so many. His tour of the Cuyahoga River completely changed the way I saw it. And his advocacy for projects like the creation of Flotsam and Jetsam has made living, working, and learning on Cleveland´s waterfronts a better thing. We will miss him at Great Lakes Science Center, but his legacy will be appreciated every day.
