James Wiley Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Dec. 8, 2010.
Wiley, James “Ken, 72, passed away December 8, 2010. He was an amazing husband, father, grandfather, and friend. He was our advisor, mentor, and inspiration. Ken held the position of President and CEO for the Florida Electric Power Coordinating Group and Florida Reliability Coordinating Council for more than 20 years and had numerous professional accomplishments throughout his illustrious career. He also proudly served his country in the U.S. Coast Guard. Ken leaves his best friend and wife of 26 years, Gloria; children, Ken Jr. (Pauline) Wiley and Kelly (John) Dorman, Ryan (Denise) Oetinger; special niece Summer (Ken) Adams; loving grandchildren, Chase and Samantha Wiley and Kenley Adams; two sisters, Helen (Robert) Beach and Frankie Jean (Richard) Lainhardt; two sisters-in-law, Darlene Donowick and Sharon Clyde; brother-in-law Chuck Dorr as well as his 4-legged little girl, Kaylee “Pookie. He received his Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from the University of Florida and his Master of Science in Engineering Administration from the University of South Florida. Ken was an avid sailor. One of his glowing achievements was sailing across the Atlantic Ocean and writing a book of his journey called The Atlantic Crossing. He was also captain of our forever memorable family sailing adventure to Belize. Ken was an award-winning chef and leader of the Hillsborough Terrors chili cook-off team. Another passion was sprint car racing and he accomplished one of his “bucket list wishes by racing a sprint car. Ken had many close and lasting friendships and will be deeply missed by his wife, family, and friends. There will be a memorial mass to celebrate his life on Wednesday, December 15, 2010, 10:30 a.m. at St. Paul Catholic Church, 12708 N. Dale Mabry Hwy, Tampa, FL 33618. The family will begin receiving friends at 9:30 a.m. In lieu of flowers, please make a charitable donation to The National Multiple Sclerosis (MS) Society or the American Cancer Society.
