James Wisdom, Jr. born on October 30, 1942, passed away on August 30, 2025, in Evansville, Indiana. He was 82 years old.
A proud veteran, James served his country with honor in the United Sates Air force where he completed and received certificates of completion for Plumbing System Maintenance. It is reflected in certifications (within the Air Force) where he completed perfect scores on Specialty Knowledge Tests. His dedication to service extended beyond the military as he broke barriers in his professional life becoming the first “negro” to complete the Evansville building trades apprenticeship program in its initial 23-year history becoming the “First Black Graduated Journeyman! This milestone marked a significant step forward for other blacks who follow behind him.
He was preceded in death by his son Lorenzo Young, Sr.; sisters, Dorothy Chambers, Maxine Sawyer-Jackson, and Flora Wisdom Malone; brothers, Willie Wisdom, and Bryant Foreman.
James leaves to morn six children: Stan Wisdom of Indianapolis, IN, Cathy Jackson-Holman of Virginia Beach, VA, Alpha Wisdom-Holman and Chris Wisdom both of Indianapolis, IN, Starla Wisdom-Allen (Kenneth) and Michael Wisdom both of Evansville, IN, he is also remembered by his stepson, Sean Perry of Indianapolis, IN and a sister, Virginia Foreman-Copeland. James’ life was one of perseverance and strength. His legacy lives on through his children and those were touched by his journey. May his memory bring comfort to those who knew him.
