James Ray Wood of Quitman, Texas passed away on July 10, 2023 in Tyler, Texas.
James was born on June 18, 1943, in Waxahachie and was a welder for 35 years, having worked for both Gardner-Denver and Trinity Industries. He served in the US Army from 1961 to 1964 as a medic in the 82nd Airborne Division. James was a devoted member of Stagner Baptist Church and enjoyed gardening and spending time with his family.
James is survived by his wife, Viola Wood; daughter, Kim Cole and her husband, Bobby; son, James Wood and his wife, Amanda; grandchildren, Samantha Gardner, Alex Houston, Erin Carden, Christopher Wood, Rebecca Wood, Kaylie Wood, Blaze Wood, Whiskey Wood, Atalie Wood, and Brock Morman; several great-grandchildren, nephews, and nieces. James was preceded in death by his father, Jack Wood; his mother, Ova Roberts Wood. A memorial service for James will be held on July 15 at 2:00 PM at Stagner Baptist Church. The family will receive friends beginning at 1:00 PM until service time.
