James Leonard Young, Jr. of Clinton, MD (88)

James Leonard Young, Jr. "Baby Jr," departed this earth for his eternal resting-place on Monday, December 1, 2025, at Southern Maryland Hospital in Clinton, Maryland.

The last survivor of 3 children, James, was born to the late Mary Agnes Holly and Leonard Young in Washington, D.C. on July 6, 1937.

He grew up in Clinton, Maryland and attended school in Prince Georges County, Maryland.

He graduated from Douglas High school in 1956. After high school he was drafted into the United States Army where he served two years. He was honorably discharged in 1966 with special commendations as a rifle marksman.

In 1960 he married his sweetheart, Doris Mae Brawner. They had three children and sadly lost their first child, Sheila Ann, shortly after birth. They spent 65 years together. One of their favorite things to do together was to dine at the IHOP restaurant in Clinton, Maryland. He also enjoyed watching football and was a diehard Washington football fan.

His career was spent primarily with the Department of the Army working at Arlington National Cemetery and as the Grocery Store Manager at the Fort McNair Commissary.

He was a quiet but strong man who was deeply devoted to his family. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather who always put his family first. One of his favorite things to do for his family was cooking. He was the family chef and prepared meals to make every occasion special. He always showed up for us at each game, school play or other family events. He was the family chauffeur who drove us to team games, school events and wherever we needed to go.

He is survived by his wife, Doris, children, Craig Young and Lisa Banks, his grandchildren Ashlea and Avery Banks and son-in-law, Theodore Banks and a host of other relatives and friends.

Friends may visit with the family Wednesday, December 17th from 10 am until Mass of Christian Burial at 11 am at St. John the Evangelist, 8908 Old Branch Ave, Clinton, MD 20735. Interment immediately to follow at Resurrection Cemetery Clinton, MD.
