Jamie Neighbors, 47, of Des Moines, Iowa, passed away on November 24, 2025. She was born on March 23, 1978, in Des Moines, Iowa to Alfred and Georgean Hickman, and she remained a lifelong resident of the city.
Jamie attended Urbandale High School and grew into a woman known for her creativity, her warmth, and, above all, her devotion to her family. Becoming a mother was her greatest joy. She welcomed her daughter Sharai Neighbors on December 17, 1999, and her daughter Tiarra Neighbors on June 5, 2005. Jamie's heart had room for every child around her-she helped raise her nephews Jonathan, Elijah, Isaiah, and Josiah as if they were her own. Kids were her biggest blessing, and she poured her patience, humor, and steady love into each of them. Her home was always a place where children felt safe, supported, and seen.
Jamie had a natural artistic spirit. She loved to sketch, draw, and paint, and she found peace in the quiet moments of creating. Music was another one of her gifts-she wrote songs, sang around the house, and sang in church. She was creative in the kitchen as well. She was a wonderful cook, known especially for her collard greens, sweet potatoes, and candied yams.
Jamie took pride in her appearance and enjoyed makeup, shopping, and the simple joy of treating herself. She carried herself with confidence, warmth, and an effortless sense of style.
Jamie is survived by her daughters, Sharai Neighbors and Tiarra Neighbors; her twin sister, Jodie Hickman; and her nephews Jonathan Hickman, Isaiah Neighbors, and Josiah Hickman. She was preceded in death by her parents, Alfred and Georgean Hickman, and her nephew Elijah.
Jamie's legacy is one of love, strength, and creativity. She will be deeply missed by everyone whose life she touched.
