HALIFAX- Jamie "Amos" Todd Sweigard, 79, of Matamoras, passed away on November 15, 2025, in the very home where he was born and where he spent all 79 years of his life-the Sweigard family house he cherished-surrounded by his wife, children and grandchildren.
Amos is preceded in death by his father, James and mother, Marie, 4 sisters, Rachel, Betty, Shirley, and Alfreda. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Nancy, 1 sister, Corrine, 2 brothers, Dallas (Marge), and Max, 3 children, Debra (Fred), Melanie (Scott), and Jason (Becky); 6 grandchildren, Sarah (Brad), Madeline (Peter), Megan (Glenn), Hannah (Devin), Adam (Haley), and Jillian (Nathan), and 6 great-children; Emilia, Quinn, Jameson, Frankie Jane, Liam, and Baby Nathalia.
Known affectionately as Amos to many and Pap to his beloved grandchildren and great-grandchildren, Jamie lived a life defined by dedication, curiosity, and a deep pride in the family he and his wife built together. He was a loving husband of 61 years, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather whose greatest joy came from living life to fullest with those he loved.
Jamie had a remarkable set of interests that reflected his hands-on and adventurous spirit. He was passionate about woodworking, using his skills to craft beautiful pieces of furniture for his family - each one made with care, talent, and love. He enjoyed John Deere tractors, motorcycles, swimming, trains, camping, and working on vehicles of all kinds. He took every opportunity to pass his knowledge on to his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, whether they were restoring tractors, playing with model trains, riding four-wheelers, camping or splashing in the pool.
Jamie was known for his smart-ass sense of humor and his big heart. His personality blended wisdom, humor, stubbornness, and a steady, protective love. He offered tough love when it was needed, a helping hand whenever it was asked for, and unwavering support to those closest to him. He was deeply respected and profoundly loved.
His grandchildren and great-grandchildren will forever remember him as the fun-loving Pap who never hesitated to get down on the floor to play hide and seek, hop on a motorcycle for a ride, or join in any adventure they dreamed up.
Jamie Todd Sweigard leaves behind a legacy of family, craftsmanship, and joyful memories-a life well lived, rich with laughter, stories, and love. His presence will be missed beyond measure, but the lessons he taught and the love he shared will continue to guide and live on through all who knew him.
