Jan Cowans Hall was born On January 15, 1947 to the late Magerine P. Cowans and William H. Cowans in Winston Salem, North Carolina. She peacefully departed this life on January 29, 2026, after an extended illness.

Her family relocated to Washington D.C. when she was 2 years old. Jan attended public school Washington, DC until she graduated from Cardoza High School in 1964. Following high school, she attended Winston Salem State College, Winston Salem, North Carolina. After college she secured employment working with youths at the DC Department of Recreation, as the Director of various recreation centers in Washington, D.C. She received numerous certificates of appreciation for training, and outstanding and exemplary support services.

While working for the recreation department, she also worked as a professional model. She was the associate Producer of the TV Special, "Straight Talk," a teen town meeting on sex and teens in the 90's, sponsored by Ortho Pharmaceutical Company. She was a member of the Screen Actor's Guild, the American Federation of Radio and Television Artists, and the model Casting Agency Association. Jan also worked with Taylor-Royall and The Central Casting Agency. As a model, she appeared in many print advertisements, commercials, motion pictures and industrial films.

In early 2000, she resigned from the Recreation Dept. to resume full-time modeling and to open Pandora's Box, East Coast, as the owner and artistic director. She designed accessories for Avery Brooks,, of ABC TV's, "A Man Called Hawk", and designed costumes for the Takoma Player's production of "Steppin Out." Her work is featured on the cover of "The Sounds of Victory," gospel groups album cover. She served as the wardrobe mistress for Dimensions Unlimited production of the play, "Over 40." Jan is a licensed make-up artist.

She also worked in the administrative office at the Washington Performing Arts, In Washington D.C.

Her marriage to James Hall ended in divorce.

Jan leaves to mourn two sisters, Sandra F. Cowans and Toni L. Cowans, 5nieces, Sonja, Denice, Joann, Brenda and Nadine; 1 nephew, Julius; 2 great nephews, Dwayne and Dennis; and 1 great-great nephew Dyson. Two brothers, Julius B. Prince and Joseph L. Prince preceded her in death.
