Jan Christian Koelling, 85 years old of Kenosha, WI; formerly Trevor, WI, Centralia, IL, Chicago, Maryland and Connecticut, passed away Saturday, February 10, 2024. He was born March 15, 1938 in Fulton, KY the son of the late Wallis Christian and Frances Marion (nèe Bryant) Koelling.
Jan wore many hats in his life. He worked as a meat cutter for Jewel as a member of Meat Cutters Union Local 555-Washington DC in his younger years. He spent many years as a carpenter in the construction industry and was a member of the United Brotherhood of Carpenters & Jointers of America Local Union 528-Washington DC. He was also a trade school instructor, a home and building inspector and was foreman of the Maintenance Department at Walter Reed Hospital, Washington DC.
Outside of work, Jan also had many interests. He was a scout leader for the Boy Scouts of America. He also loved hiking, rafting, camping, spelunking, gardening, reading and playing cards. He especially loved the activities he could enjoy with his grandkids.
Jan is survived by his four children, Debra Ann (David) Watson of Trevor, WI, Michael Christian (Lisa) of East Troy, WI, Joseph Christian of Durham, NC, and Jennifer Lynn (Avery) Pierce of Claremont, VA; his 6 grandchildren, Nicole (Jordan) Nelson, Ashley (Alex) Harris, Dalia, Ben, Ava, Eloise; one great-grandson, Oliver Harris; his half siblings, Sally Biagi, James Hannon, Ron Koelling, Sidney Koelling, Amy Lanman; his brother-in-law, Henry Huston; and many other extended family and friends. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his older sister, Barbara Ann Huston and daughter-in-law, Amanda Koelling.
A Celebration of Life is planned for August 3, 2024 in Trevor, WI. Arrangements were entrusted to Strang Funeral Home, 1055 Main St.,
